S&T adds Hbb TV capability to TSBroadcaster

IBC, Amsterdam, Connected World Stand IP601/Stand 1.A21, 10 - 14 September 2010: S&T (Strategy & Technology) is to release a version of its popular TSBroadcaster Object/Data Carousel designed for the HbbTV standard that has emerged as a popular choice for the delivery of interactive content by European broadcasters.

TSBroadcaster is already a well-established product, used both in Europe and in the United States, with versions already covering DVB (MHEG-5 and MHP), OCAP and ETV platforms. The OCAP version now includes support for Common Download and Out Of Band (OOB) playout as well as transport stream and GigE IP outputs. The new HbbTV edition will be available in Q4 2010.

The HbbTV consortium has recently received standardisation for version 1.1.1 of its specification as ETSI TS 102 796. The Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA), the French TV regulator, has also expressed its support for HbbTV with the introduction of interactive services and applications based on the HbbTV specification in France expected in 2011.

Many leading European broadcasters including Canal+, TF1, ARD, RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 are committed to offering HbbTV powered hybrid applications and services.

David Cutts, Managing Director of S&T said, "This variant of TSBroadcastesr will form an element of S&T's integrated HbbTV solution. We can now offer customers an extended suite of options for interactive TV supporting all the key standards. Enthusiasm from both the German and French market makes it clear that HbbTV is an important part of broadcaster's plans and IBC is the perfect platform to show why our sophisticated technology is the preferred customer choice."
